wins Energy Globe Award 2001


In the section "Transport" the World Energy Globe Award 2001 was presented to SEEG-Mureck ("Die Murecker Energie-Kreislauf-Olympiade" - Energy in a perfect cycle) represented by the managing director Ök. Rat Karl Totter.

Perfect energy cycling is demonstrated in a renewable energy transport project. The city of Mureck uses rapeseed and used cooking oil for Biodiesel-production. The environmentally friendly fuel is used in the public buses of the city of Graz and in 100 municipalities in Styria.

Winners of the ENERGY GLOBE AWARD 2001

On February, 28th, 2001, in the course of a TV Gala in the Design Center Linz the prize for substainable energy solutions - Energy Globe Award 2001 - was awarded in the following categories: "Companies", "Transport", "Private & public initiatives", "Building & Housing", "Learning for the future" and furthermore a special award in the category "Technologies for the future".

1230 submissions from 75 countries participated in the renewable energy competetion - Energy Globe Award 2001. The winners of the award received a 60 cm, 18 kg trophy and a 10,000 Euro cash prize.

A great many celebrities and well-known people attended the event. The prizes were presented by: Nitin Desai, United Nations Secretary-General of the Johannesburg Summit 2002 and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Colette Flesch, Member of the European Parliament and Ex-Director-General at the European Commission, the Austrian Minister for Agriculture and the Environment Mag. Wilhelm Molterer, Economic Representatives from Abu Dhabi and many others.

SEEG Mureck Gen. m.b.H., Nahwärme Mureck GmbH and Ökostrom Mureck GmbH located in Mureck, South Styria - Austria, run an ecological biodiesel production plant, a heating facility and a biomass heat plant to provide the city of Mureck with energy. Five energy cycles are connected: Rapeseed - Used Cooking Oil - Heat - Biogas - Electricity.
